The Institute itself does not offer degrees. Rather, our students enroll in a graduate degree program with another UMass department, and then choose one of our members or affiliated faculty as their research advisor. We have frequently taken on students from Psychology, Physics, and the School of Education, although other arrangements might be possible. Students must satisfy all normal degree requirements for their home department, including course work and qualifying exams.
(Unfortunately, we are not at present able to accept Physics Department students for a doctoral degree in Physics Education Research.)
If you are interested in graduate work with SRRI, you will need to apply to a degree-granting UMass department. Make sure you will be happy in that department, and that the department will approve of your working with us. If you wish, you may contact us to discuss the choice of departments.
